TC10k Comments from VA7BNB

29 Apr

THANK YOU to more than 40 WARA members and friends who gave their time to support the our Public Service team at the April 28 TC10K run. There were 9000 plus runners, walkers, wheelers, teams and youth who came out on a glorious morning. I heard one on the participants was 93 years old.

The tired runner van was called on three or four times to provide help tired or injured runners. These pickups were handled seamlessly thanks to the coordination between our Net Control Center and our team member in the BC Ambulance building in Langford. That cooperation is priceless in time saving and level headed control.

I want to offer a special thanks to Alan Mallett VA7AWM and Trevor Peirce VE7TAV for their hard work on organizing the day. Race committee meetings for the upcoming October Victoria Marathon start in July and once the Marathon is over, the next round of TC10k planning meetings gets rolling again. This involves a large time commitment. Thank You Gentlemen. And thanks to Victoria Emergency Management for their ongoing support and the use of the well equipped communications van.

I want to remind all our members that the work we do for the TC10K, the Victoria Marathon and the CARHA Hockey tournaments bring a good portion of our budget so your support goes a long way. Thank you again, Brent… VA7BNB ,President, Westcoast Amateur Radio Association
