Hi everyone, This year marks the 40th year of the Pacific Cup Hockey Tournament and Victoria amateur radio operators have been providing radio communications for this event since the first puck drop.
We are quite short on radio operators this year so any available radio operators would be appreciated to do a volunteer shift. Shifts are open for all time slots at the present time over the three day event which runs on Friday, January 20 to Sunday, January 22, 2017. A schedule will be posted later on in the week on the WARA website.
There is no training required, however, an orientation session is provided on Thursday, January 19 at 1900 at Harbour Towers for those that are interested and so CARHA can provide the “thank-you for volunteering” handouts.
The Pacific Cup shifts last between 4-5 hours and operators would be passing low priority informal messages in a radio network environment. It is low-key, lots of fun and you don’t even need to like hockey to participate.
