AGM 2019 President’s Report

16 Oct

WARA has had a busy year. We have had a lot of work done to the repeater network. We had a PA failure on Salt Spring which caused a general cleanup and upgrade, replacing the PA, replacing the duplex filter with a multi coupler. We also had a lot of work done at the Mt. McDonald site, far too much for this report.
Our membership is doing well. As a side note I would like to remind our members that our membership runs from January One to December Thirty First.
We did not have a class this year for a number of reasons. The Education team is working hard to get a class in the spring. We are running a shorter class using a different textbook. We are looking for instructors. Please consider volunteering as an instructor.
Our Public Service team has been busy as usual. I want to thank all our members for supporting these events. They are a large portion of our budget.
Field Day was interesting. We had a great turn out to help setup the stations and string the antennas. We had a good pizza feed for lunch and then operations started. About 5:00PM we had a great supper feed of hamburgers or chicken burgers, with Chili and salad. A big thank you to the ladies that supplied and cooked the evening meal.
Sadly we did not get a good turnout of CW operators. One or two as I recall. And we did not have a lot of spare operators for SSB either.
We had a series of Virtual presentations by Yaesu and FlexRadio. I found these interesting and I hope the members that attended enjoyed them too.
If you have any ideas for future presentations, please let me know – Brent Besse VA7BNB
