Our next Public Service event is the Royal Victoria Marathon on Saturday and Sunday 2026-10-11/12. WARA members will set up radio stations along the route to provide radio communications services for emergencies, first aid and tired runner pick ups. Everyone is welcome to participate. Hello all, I hope you all are having a great summer and are looking forward to a return to radio activities in the fall!
This year, the annual Victoria Marathon will be held on Sunday, October 11th, with additional events happening on Saturday, October 10th. WARA has been asked to assist with both events once again for the 2026 year.
If you are available to assist with communications on either Saturday or Sunday (or both!) please let me know! We’ll need more then 40 volunteers to fully staff this event, so I’m looking for all the hands I can get. As always, if you have specific requests surrounding positions or timing let me know and I’ll do my best to accommodate. There will be a variety of different positions to staff this year; including static checkpoints, mobile bicycle, lead vehicle, and this year up to 4 pickup vans!
The marathon, and all the various public service events WARA is involved with are fantastic positive exposure for both the club and amateur radio as a whole, and they wouldn’t be possible without volunteers like yourselves, so thanks in advance for helping making this year’s marathon a success!
