WARA hosted the 2010 ARRL Field Day at the Saanich Historical Artifacts Society on June 26 – 27. Once again we threw it open to any Amateur operators of group who wished to join us. Some of us met for breakfast at Kitty’s Hideaway Restaurant, 3020 Douglas Street, Victoria, BC V8T4N4 at the Traveller’s Inn before leaving at about 8:30 to go out to the site and set up.
We operated from about 1130 Saturday morning to about noon on Sunday. There was fantastic pizza provided by New Horizons Amateur Radio Club for lunch which was very much appreciated by all 24 people there. Around 45 of us enjoyed a pot luck supper at about 1700 Saturday evening consisting of Hamburgers, Smokies, and Chili along with tons of extras and deserts. Thanks to everyone who supported the pot luck and the food preparation and service. Thanks also to Audrey Chew ve7odd and Cheryl Oeste for their hard work. Thanks also goes to the field day coordinators Jim VE7GOF and Hans VE7OES and all the participants.
We made 98 CW and 236 Phone contacts. Total attendance over the 24 hour period was 75 people. A special hit was the miniature train ride around the property supplied by the train engineer. This is not a part of the rental but was offered as he happened to be there. Saanich Historical Artifacts Society facilities have been booked again for next year, 2011 – 73 Jim, VE7GOF
