Central Middle School Amateur Radio Volunteer Opportunity

9 Jan

At Central Middle School (grades 6-8, ages 11-13) we offer some of our students the opportunity to learn about Amateur Radio every Wednesday from 10:40 to 12:00. We have run this program for over 10 years and some of our students have gone on to get their certification. The next program runs from January 15, 2014 – March 5, 2014. We are looking for volunteers to assist us in any of the following ways:

  1. Commit to attending one or more sessions to speak about some aspect of Amateur Radio. We want to hear your stories about how your life was affected by your involvement with Amateur Radio.
  2. Commit to attending one or more sessions to supervise the students using the radios and help us teach appropriate radio protocols.
  3. Come on the radio (usually local repeaters) during our sessions so as to respond to our students as they try to make radio contacts. The club callsign is VE7YVI.
  4. Make a donation to allow us to continue this opportunity to students at Central Middle School.

Any assistance you can provide in helping us nurture young people as they develop radio-related competencies would be greatly appreciated. If you are able to volunteer or contribute in any way please contact Kathie Cross (VA7KTH) at Central – 250-386-3591 or email kcross@sd61.bc.ca.
